Structure of applications by type of study programme

A total of 1,632 applications were submitted for integrated master’s programmes, 5,467 for academic study programmes and 2,725 for professional higher education study programmes. A total of 7,749 applications were made for study programmes with a limited number of places and 2,075 for programmes with unlimited places.

Limits on admissions

For the 2026/27 academic year, limits on admission have been introduced for 71 full-time study programmes and one part-time study programme (Nursing at the Faculty of Health Sciences, part-time).

They include:

  • 6 integrated master’s programmes;
  • 49 university (academic) study programmes; and
  • 17 first-cycle (professional) higher education programmes.

Special features of this year’s application round

  • Seventy-five candidates applied for one of the 30 places available on the Biopharmaceutical Engineering course, an interdisciplinary professional higher education programme that is being offered this year for the first time.
  • Great interest was again seen in the Medicine integrated master’s study programme, with 467 applications received for 240 places. We are also seeing increased interest in the programmes offered by the Faculty of Health Sciences, the Veterinary Faculty, the School of Economics and Business, the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Architecture, the Faculty of Computer and Information Science, the Faculty of Arts (Psychology) and the Faculty of Pharmacy.
  • As is traditional, the demand for places outstrips supply on courses offered by the arts academies, particularly the Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (Stage Acting), the Academy of Music (Musical Arts) and the Academy of Fine Arts and Design (Visual Communications Design).
  • Since the 2024/25 academic year, interest has grown in enrolment in study programmes at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and the Faculty of Civil and Geodetic Engineering, particularly for the Mechanical Engineering project-based applied professional higher education programme (265 applications for 165 places) and the Construction academic study programme (129 applications for 110 places).
  • There has also been a noticeable rise in interest in natural science, technical and interdisciplinary courses.

Application round for Slovenians resident in neighbouring countries and elsewhere in the world

This year’s application round featured the chance, for the first time, for Slovenians resident in neighbouring countries and elsewhere in the world to apply to study at the University of Ljubljana. This had not been possible in the past. UL offered 416 places for this group and received applications from 52 candidates. In this round, the decision was taken to limit the number of places on six study programmes. The highest number of applications was received for the Medicine integrated master’s programme at the Faculty of Medicine (eight applications) and the Veterinary Studies integrated master’s programme at the Veterinary Faculty (six applications).

Significant growth in interest from non-EU countries

Once more there was significant growth in interest from international candidates from non-EU countries. A total of 3,173 applications were submitted for 943 places, which was a considerable increase on last year’s figure of around 2,000 applications. The majority of the applications were for programmes with a limited number of places, with only 146 applications coming in for programmes with no limits on admission. The School of Economics and Business’s university degree programme in Business and Economics saw the highest level of interest (913 applications for 80 full-time places), followed by the Faculty of Computer and Information Science’s full-time academic Computer and Information Science programme (217 applications for 15 places) and the integrated master’s programme in Architecture at the Faculty of Architecture (127 applications for 20 places).
