Economics and business

Upon enrolment, applicants have to choose one of the majors of programme which further devide as follows:

• Economics track, choose one of the majors:
  – Money and Finance,
  – Economics,
  – International Economics,
  
  or
  
  
• Business track, choose one of the majors:
  – Financial management,
  – Information management,
  – Management and organization,
  – International business,
  – Operations research,
  – Entrepreneurship,
  – Business logistics,
  – Accounting,
  – Marketing,
  – Tourism.

Enrolment in the doctoral study programme is open to candidates who have completed:

• a 2nd-cycle study programme;
• a programme leading to an academic higher education qualification, adopted before 11 June 2004;
• a study programme leading to a specialisation and a previously completed professional higher education programme, if the candidate has completed course units defined by the programme totalling 36 ECTS credits; or
• a master of science degree or a study programme leading to specialisation, if the candidate has previously completed a programme leading to an academic higher education qualification. Upon enrolment, 60 ECTS credits will be recognised for candidates in accordance with the law; 
• a study programme leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or another integrated master's degree programme evaluated at 300 ECTS credits.

Enrolment in the doctoral programme is also open to graduates of foreign universities. The equivalence of previously acquired education in a foreign country will be established by means of the procedure for the recognition of foreign qualifications for the purposes of further education in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana.

The following will be considered when selecting candidates for enrolment:

• academic performance in:
  • second-cycle study programmes;
  • study programmes leading to an academic higher education qualification, adopted before 11 June 2004;
  • study programmes leading to specialisation after completion of a professional higher education programme;
  • study programmes leading to a master of science degree or specialisation after completion of a study programme leading to an academic higher education qualification;
  • study programmes leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or other integrated master's degree programmes evaluated at 300 ECTS credits.

and

• performance in an oral exam, where the following is also evaluated:
  • performance thus far in undergraduate studies (if the grade was not taken into account under Item 1);
  • scientific and research potential;
  • candidate’s motivation;
  • research work undertaken by the candidate thus far (published articles and other publications);
  • international aptitude tests (e.g. GMAT, GRE);
  • awards, recognitions, etc.
  • other.

The specific importance of individual items will be determined by the Faculty Senate. 

Depending on the number of suitable candidates and mentors, the Doctoral Studies Commission may decide to restrict enrolment in an individual specialisation.
