Who is exempt from paying tuition fees?

No tuition fees for full-time bachelor's and master's studies for:

  • Slovenians – including those living outside the borders of the Republic of Slovenia and those without Slovenian citizenship as defined by the relevant law – together with students from EU countries, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, and Norway;
  • Students from countries with which the Republic of Slovenia has concluded bilateral agreement (Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Serbia);
  • Students with permanent residence in the Republic of Slovenia who themselves or their parents/guardians are taxpayers of the Republic of Slovenia;
  • Persons granted international protection, as well as persons under temporary protection;
  • Scholarship holders of the Republic of Slovenia (CMEPIUS, Public Scholarship, Development, Disabiltiy and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia);
  • Exchange students (this inclues also doctoral students).

Who is obliged to pay tuition fees?

Tuition fees are paid by:

  • Citizens of non-EU countries with which the Republic of Slovenia has not signed bilateral agreement;
  • All students with already acquired equivalent degree of education;
  • Students who have been exempt from paying tuition fees and who, upon changing their bachelor's or master's study programme or direction, enroll in the same or a lower study year, having already exercised the right to repeat a year at the same cycle of study;
  • Students who have been exempt from paying tuition fees and who re-enroll in the same study program or direction from which they previously withdrew;
  • All part-time students;
  • All doctoral students (more about the co-funding scheme).
