About the programme

The English Studies Master’s degree equips students to work independently at an advanced level in fields directly connected to English and American studies as well as in the cultural professions, in the humanities and in research more generally. The double-subject English studies master’s degree equally equips students to work in fields and professions connected to the second subject of study. Graduates of the English Studies master’s programme are well-rounded professionals with in-depth and comprehensive knowledge of the English language and English literature as well as of the cultures of different English-speaking communities. Students acquire all the core knowledge and intercultural linguistic competences expected of a highly qualified specialist in the field according to international standards.
The programme also offers a pedagogical or teacher training track aimed at providing high-quality education in the social sciences and humanities, focusing on educational theory and practice and with a specialisation in a subject area, in this case English. It prepares students for creative and demanding teaching work at all levels of English language teaching. It provides them with the highest level of linguistic knowledge for teaching and the ability to adapt proactively and critically to the latest developments in teaching practice, as well as to work in teams and across the curriculum. It also equips them to carry out independent research, especially practical research in teaching, and to build on the knowledge they have acquired in any direction they wish to pursue. Graduates of the English Master’s pedagogical track are qualified to teach English at all levels and in all formats, both in Slovenia and abroad.
