About the programme

In addition to general humanistic and social science competences, students of the Master's degree in Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology programme acquire and consolidate specific competences that stem from knowledge of ways of life and cultural diversity. These competences enable graduate students to find employment in cultural, administrative, governmental and non-governmental, economic and educational institutions, mainly in the fields that are connected to the processes and elements of everyday life, such as issues of rural and urban life, communication, media and language, gender, migration, minorities, human rights, health culture, religion, popular culture, publishing, cultural marketing, the protection of and engagement with cultural heritage and folk culture in heritage conservation and museums, documentation centres, libraries and on international research and applied projects.

Graduates are qualified to carry out professional tasks independently in the above-mentioned fields. They are qualified to perform cultural mediation and coordination, managerial and complex professional tasks in cultural institutions and non-governmental organisations related to administrative and professional activities, collection, recording and documentation of data and information, transfer of knowledge and information and its application in practice. A distinctive feature of the study of ethnology and cultural anthropology is the acquisition of competence in fieldwork and working with people in different cultural contexts. The study programme builds on the knowledge, skills and competences acquired in the Bachelor’s programme and prepares graduates for independent research, applied and development work, while enabling the most successful students to enrol in doctoral study programme.
