About the programme
The Visual communications design study programme is the leading programme in this field in Slovenia, with a long-standing and widely recognised tradition of outstanding teaching and the establishment of professional standards. The programme comprehensively covers the fields of graphic design, photography, and illustration, and sets key directions for the development of visual culture within the wider social context.
Through lectures, seminars, assignments, and studio work, students acquire both fundamental and advanced knowledge that can be directly applied in practice—across print and digital media, where leading graphic designers, photographers, and illustrators work—while also gaining a strong theoretical foundation for research in these areas. After the first year, the programme branches into specialised pathways that are thoughtfully and systematically built upon at Master’s level. Students are encouraged to develop critical judgement, and a wide range of theoretical and practical courses equips them for responsible and innovative work in visual communications. Through numerous collaborations with cultural, social, and economic institutions, students actively contribute to shaping the contemporary public sphere.
The programme places particular emphasis on multidisciplinarity, openness, and collaboration between different study pathways, enabling younger generations to develop creative, research, and professional competencies in a holistic way. With its carefully designed structure, the undergraduate programme provides an excellent transition to Master’s level, and many graduates continue their studies at some of Europe’s most prestigious institutions, making significant contributions to the development of visual communication both locally and internationally.
