About the programme

The Master’s programme guides students towards deepening their knowledge and developing their personal creative abilities, technical proficiency, and theoretical understanding for independent and collaborative creative work across various fields of visual communication: photography, graphic design, illustration, and interactive design. A strong emphasis is placed on socially responsible design practices and on understanding the role of designers as active participants in shaping cultural, social, and political discourse.

Combining theoretical research with hands-on experimentation, the programme encourages innovation and the development of individual talent. This leads to new conceptual approaches based on contemporary design methods and theories, resulting in modern and articulate visual expression of communicative content.

Projects are closely intertwined with numerous collaborations with external partners, providing students with concrete professional experience in real working environments. Students also have the opportunity to participate in research projects, gaining insights that may serve as a foundation for potential third-cycle study within two different doctoral programmes.

Informal learning takes place through workshops, study trips, short activities with invited external lecturers, internationally recognised regional summer schools delivered in collaboration with international partners, and other activities developed in cooperation with various departments at UL ALUO as well as through transdisciplinary collaboration with numerous other members of the University of Ljubljana.
