The University of Ljubljana and the Ministry of Education, Science and Sport have signed contracts on the co-financing of the construction of a new building for the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine and the Faculty of Medicine campus on Vrazov Square. The contracts provide for the co-financing of projects within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, with a total value of 131,930,062.17 €, of which 89,334,624.00 € will come from the EU budget within the framework of the Recovery and Resilience Plan, and 42,595,438.17 € from the budget of the Republic of Slovenia.The project is due to be completed by the end of the current year.

The plan is to comprehensively develop the area of the former Šempeter barracks and to build a campus for the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Medicine. The area includes the existing Karolya-type buildings, with the western and southern tracts being retained in their present extent, and the northern and eastern tracts being removed and replaced by extensions or new buildings. The lower part of the campus will be used for lecture and tutorial rooms and the upper floors for laboratories. The main entrance will be located on the lower floor with a circular connection to both existing buildings. In accordance with the overall vision of the University of Ljubljana, appropriate spatial and infrastructural conditions are provided for the implementation of the educational programme and research and scientific work at the highest professional level.
