Researcher in the fields of biochemistry and biotechnology Full professor at the UL Faculty of Pharmacy and co-author of numerous patents. This University of Ljubljana alumnus lives and works in Slovenia.

Prof. Dr Štrukelj is a co-author of several patent applications. He has written more than 180 scientific and professional articles which have been published in more than 100 leading international scientific journals. In 2015 he received the Zois Prize for outstanding achievements in the modern sustainable development of pharmaceutical biotechnology in Slovenia, in 2009 the Mynarik award, in 2007 the Zois award for outstanding scientific achievements and in 1991 the Boris Kidrič Fund Prize for scientific achievements. One of the most recent achievements of the research group headed by Prof. Dr Štrukelj is a solution to the problem of determining unknown compounds of peptide origin, the usefulness of which has been recognised by the anti-doping organisation WADA, which supported the project financially. 

He is a former Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy, and now heads the pharmaceutical biotechnology group and is full professor at the Faculty of Pharmacy of the University of Ljubljana. He also lectures at the Biotechnology Faculty in Ljubljana. He has supplementary employment at the Jožef Stefan Institute. He heads four different research groups, three at the Faculty of Pharmacy and one at the Jožef Stefan Institute. Up until 2012 he served as an expert for the European Pharmacopoeia in Strasbourg, in the pharmaceutical biomolecules group, and at the European Medicines Evaluation Agency (EMEA). He is a member of the Strategic Council for Medicines at the Ministry of Health. He graduated in the Pharmacy Department of the former UL Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology, and gained his doctorate in biochemistry at the UL Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Technology. Later he gained further post-doctoral knowledge at the CPRO-DLO Institute of the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. In 2010 under the aegis of the Fulbright Foundation he served as visiting professor at Duquesne University in Pittsburgh, USA.
