Accommodation
Find a place where you will be happy. The University of Ljubljana, unfortunately, does not provide student accommodation, but there is still a variety of accommodations available across the city. To help you make the right choice, research your option and find appropriate accommodation.
Local transport
It is very easy to get around the city on foot, and there is a good public transport system covering the city and all the main suburbs. The most effective means of public transport in Ljubljana are the city bus and city bikes.
City bus
You can apply for the subsidised transport at the selling points or you can fill in the Application Form for a subsidised ticket* online. The fare is paid by the URBANA card. The student subsidised Urbana card for city bus in Ljubljana is 20€ per month.
*For filling in the online form for subsidised transport you will need a qualified digital certificate (for obtaining it you will need Slovenian tax number and EMŠO). You can find the procedures on how apply for a certificate bellow:
- Ministry for the Interior - SIGEN-CA
- Pošta Slovenije d.o.o. - Pošta®CA
- Nova Ljubljanska banka d.d. - AC NLB
- Halcom d.d. - Halcom CA
Bicikelj
Ljubljana has established a bicycle system called Bicikelj since 2011, with 84 stations and 840 bikes. Bicycles are available all days of the year (24/7); the first hour is for free. When registered and subscribed, you can use it without any limitations. Stations are some 300 to 500 meters apart and connected via terminals. Bicycles weigh 20 kg and have anti-theft and anti-vandalism protection. Stations are easily accessible (near shopping malls, bus stops, and so on) and ideal for overcoming short distances. It is easy to rent and return a bike with this system. You can register into the system weekly (for 1€) or yearly (for 3€).
Cost of living
To live comfortably while you are in Slovenia, you will need to have at least 600,00 € monthly for living costs, above the cost of your tuition. Actual expenditure depends on individual lifestyle and accommodation.
