The Pahernik Foundation is committed to sustainable forest management by encouraging young people to study forestry and supporting research. Scholarships are intended for students, citizens of the Republic of Slovenia.

The Pahernik Foundation manages the Pahernik forest estate, which was owned by Vida Ribnikar, born in Ljubljana. Her father, Franjo Pahernik, took over the estate after his father's death and started sustainable forest management, reforestation of degraded pastures and meadows, forest inventory and verification of the success of the management through bookkeeping and planning.

In 2005, Vida Ribnikar signed the Act establishing the Pahernik Foundation, and together with representatives of the University of Ljubljana, signed the Solemn Declaration of Establishment. The estate, which is situated in the Ribnica Pohorje area, is also a teaching facility for students and is committed to the general advancement of forestry sciences. The scholarships are awarded for one academic year (exceptionally several), with the possibility of renewal in subsequent academic years.

Who can apply?

Scholarships from the Pahernik Foundation are intended for students (citizens of the Republic of Slovenia) in the second and third levels of forestry studies at the Department of Forestry and Renewable Forest Resources of the Faculty of Biotechnics of the University of Ljubljana, especially those who achieve above-average results in their studies.
