Vice-Rector for knowledge transfer, digitalisation and sustainable development

Prof. Maja Klun, PhD, is a full professor of public sector economics at the Faculty of Public Administration of the University of Ljubljana (UL FU). She completed all her studies at the School of Economics and Business, formerly known as the Faculty of Economics, at the University of Ljubljana, where she received her doctorate in 2002. She began her career in state administration at the Ministry of Economic Relations and Development, a ministry which later ceased to exist and whose competences are now covered by the Ministry of Finance, Foreign Economic Relations Administration, while building her academic career at what is now known as the Faculty of Public Administration.

She has been a guest lecturer in Prague, Rotterdam, Ghent, Bratislava, Salzburg, Rijeka, and other cities. Her main area of research relates to public sector economics, particularly public finances. As a researcher, she has been involved in a number of projects in her area of expertise (FP7, Horizon 2020, Interreg Alpine Space, projects financed by the Croatian science Foundation, Slovenian Research Agency projects, etc.) She is a member of the Digital Transformation for Smart Public Governance research group. From 2005 to 2007, she was a member of the government group of experts working on the development of results-oriented budgeting; in 2007, she was appointed to the group working on better regulations within the Ministry of Public Administration; from 2009 to 2013, she was a member of the Government strategic council for the public sector. Between 2010 and 2013, she acted as the Deputy Secretary General at the European Association for Public Administration Accreditation. She has been a member of the NISPAcee Steering Committee since 2022. On several occasions, she has been appointed to lead organising committees of various international conferences (TED9, NISPAcee, E-government, etc.). She has authored and co-authored papers in prominent research journals, and contributed chapters in various Slovenian and foreign monographs. In 2020, the NISPAcee awarded her with Alena Brunovska Award for Teaching Excellence in Public Administration. Since 2020, she has acted as editor-in-chief of CEPAR, a journal published by the UL’s Faculty of Public Administration. In addition, she is a member of editorial boards at various international journals. She served as Vice Dean for Research for 12 years (2009–2021) at the Faculty of Public Administration, and is in her third term of heading the Chair of Economics and Public Sector Management. What is more, she was President of the Academic Assembly, chaired the Faculty of Public Administration Publishing Department, and acted as the coordinator of the joint doctoral study programme at the UL Faculty of Public Administration. 

She was elected to the position of Vice-Rector of the University of Ljubljana for Knowledge Transfer, Digitalisation and Sustainable Development for the term from 1 October 2022 to 30 September 2025.
