The Psychosocial Counselling Service for students and staff at the University of Ljubljana is intended for everyone facing various situations (in the field of interpersonal relationships, studies, etc.) who needs a conversation.

Please contact the counsellors at the Psychosocial Counselling Service if you have any of the following problems:

  • (Everyday) problems that you would like to "talk" to someone about,
  • fears, unpleasant experiences,
  • the desire to think about the next steps (in relation to a specific problem or life in general, independence, partnership, etc.),
  • the need to cope to terms with past painful experiences,
  • difficulties in achieving goals, motivational problems, etc,
  • issues relating to self-esteem, identity, LGBTIQ+,
  • desire to improve communication and interpersonal relationships (partner, authority figures, parents, etc.), assertiveness ...

Students are also invited to the psychosocial counselling service if they want to reflect with someone on different perspectives, questions, dilemmas, uncertainties regarding (future) professional work or issues arising during practice, visits, encounters... with users and institutions (supervision, coaching).

It is also intended for everyone who is simply curious, or wants to chat about themselves, get some feedback on their behavior ...

Where and when?

The service operates at five locations:

  • Faculty of Education (appointments by arrangement), room 405;
  • Faculty of Health Sciences (Thursdays at 12.00-14.00), common room on the fourth floor;
  • Faculty of Mathematics and Physics (Tuesdays at 12.00-14.00), room 519;
  • Academy of Theatre, Radio, Film and Television (appointments by arrangement), room 508;
  • Student residences Rožna dolina (appointments by arrangement), Residence VI.

Consultation times vary from case to case, so please enquire in advance. In exceptional cases, if it is difficult or impossible to visit the counselling centre "in person", if you are ill, etc., you can arrange for remote counselling, whereby you should generally choose a location that is closer to you and a counsellor with whom you have no other relationship (studies, family, acquaintances, etc.).

How to make an appointment?

Send an email to the counsellor you wish to contact and arrange an appointment that suits both of you. You may also come during counselling hours, although this is less advisable as the counsellor may not be available. In that case, you can at least agree on the next available time slot.

If you cannot attend your appointment, please inform the counsellor a few days in advance so that the time can be offered to someone else. If, due to health reasons or faculty closure, you cannot attend in person, you may arrange for counselling via MS Teams, Zoom, or similar online tools. Please contact the counsellor in advance by email to agree on the date, format, and conditions of the session.

Please coordinate with only one counsellor.

Who are we?

As a team trained in various specialist, counselling and (psycho)therapeutic approaches, and with diverse experience in providing psychosocial support, we ensure that we can adequately cover a broad spectrum of methods and interventions that students may need in different life situations and contexts, while also being able to recognise when someone should be referred to other professional services.

However, it is important to emphasise once again that the Psychosocial Counselling Service is also intended for completely everyday, “ordinary” questions and reflections.

You can do this in an unpressured way, in a calm setting, with a professional who will be genuinely dedicated only to you during that time, while your anonymity, privacy and confidentiality are fully ensured (everything discussed in the counselling session remains strictly between you and the professional).

In case of severe distress
