Tutoring is the systematic guidance of students through their studies. It does not focus only on their academic development, but also on their personal development. The tutoring system increases the number of students progressing to the next year, provides students with advice on how to form the elective part of their programme, organises and provides assistance in the study of individual subjects, mandatory practical work, etc. The tutoring system has been in place at the University of Ljubljana since 2007, with both teachers and students participating in the tutoring programme.
If you would like to become a tutor, please contact your faculty/academy. If you are a student and need tutoring, find out if and what tutoring opportunities are available at your faculty or academy.
We make things easier!
The tutors at the University of Ljubljana often boast. This is also the opinion of many students who were supported by their tutors in solving problems that arose during their studies.
Main tasks of a tutor-teacher:
- Advising students on studies, subject choices, further study and career options;
- Help with study or other problems that arise during the course of studies.
The main task of the student tutor:
- to provide students with appropriate support in their studies. Tutors help students learn the subject matter and deal with other problems that may arise during their studies and jeopardise their academic performance.
Depending on the role of the tutor (student or teacher), the form of support and the addressee, the University of Ljubljana distinguishes between different types of tutoring, which you can find out more about below.
What a tutor does not do:
- does not gather information for the student, but merely guides him/her,
- does not comment on professors, grading policies, teaching methods or study assignments,
- does not write assignments, reports, notes, etc. for the student;
- does not provide the student with notes, term papers, reports, etc.
Various trainings for tutor coordinators and tutors are regularly organised at UL. You can always send your suggestions for trainings to enakost@uni-lj.si.
