UL's activities in the field of promoting and strengthening employee satisfaction support the realization of the university's mission in relation to its partners in education, research, and other processes. Such activities also contribute to the quality culture at the UL through understanding and developing human resources.
Assessing employee satisfaction
Employee satisfaction can be measured by using various tools. To support activities aimed at improving employee satisfaction, UL has developed employee satisfaction survey template and guidelines for its use. The survey's purpose is to evaluate employee job satisfaction and, subsequently, foster a discussion with employees about its results with the intention of:
- identifying opportunities for improvement and developing measures that address identified challenges or areas of concern,
- implementing those measures and, if necessary,
- adapting the method of evaluation, all with the aim of achieving higher employee satisfaction.

About employee training and development
In order to ensure the continuous pedagogical and professional development of employees at the University of Ljubljana (UL), we carry out various training programmes. Training and other forms of education take place at the university and UL members, as well as in external organizations. Many training programmes are designed specifically for pedagogical staff and researchers, while others are targeted at all categories of UL employees.
Types of training programmes:
- training in the area of teaching and learning, which is primarily intended for pedagogical staff,
- general training for all employees (communication, organization, leadership, IT, foreign languages, etc.),
- training for quality research performence,
- specific training to meet special requirements of different work processes, and
- training designed to improve employees' competencies for working with special groups of students, which is an important part of pedagogical and professional development of higher education teachers and associates (e.g. training for tutors and for working with students with special needs).
Training in the area of the culture of quality
In order to improve work and study processes as well as to monitor and develop the quality of our work, we carry out a training programme for the area of the culture of quality. The latter is intended for pedagogical and non-pedagogical staff. Through these training, we:
- promote the culture and system of quality (training for designing quality measures, training for better self-evaluation of study programmes),
- strengthen competencies for public speaking (rhetoric in Slovene and English), for improved communication and cooperation (conflict resolution), and for leadership in higher education space as well as
- support employees' endeavours for personal growth and health (stress management, mindfulness).
Training in the area of learning and teaching
Training in the area of learning and teaching is very important for the development of pedagogical competencies. The great success and interest in the training of the so-called KUL project encouraged support for the continuation of the training from its own resources and the path towards a more systematic implementation of this type of training. The follow-up training programmes in the area of learning and teaching were mainly carried out within the training for innovative forms of learning and teaching and as a part of the Innovative Learning and Teaching for Quality Careers of Graduates and Excellent Higher Education (INOVUP) project.
We also provide training in the use of information and communication technology (ICT) in the study process, which is carried out within the Centre for the use of ICT in the pedagogical process. This particular training seeks to promote flexible forms of learning by integrating the didactic use of ICT into the higher education pedagogical process and learning to strengthen digital skills and digital literacy of students and graduates.
