The University of Ljubljana presents four major interdisciplinary research projects worth over EUR 10 million
At a press conference today, the University of Ljubljana (UL) unveiled four internationally groundbreaking interdisciplinary research projects, which will receive a total of more than EUR 10 million in funding over the next five years. The projects were selected through an internal call for proposals issued by the UL, aimed at fostering cooperation among its member faculties and strengthening research excellence and international visibility.

The recipients of the highest national prizes and awards in the field of science for 2025 have been announced
The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Dr Igor Papič, and the President of the Committee of the Republic of Slovenia for the Awarding of Prizes and Awards for Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research and Development, Prof. Dr Nataša Vaupotič, have announced this year’s recipients of the highest national prizes and awards in the field of science. The recipients include several scientists from the University of Ljubljana.

Prof. Dr Matej Černe from UL EF named Mentor of the Year 2024
On 14 May, the Young Academy of Slovenia society presented the 16th Mentor of the Year Award in the Assembly Hall at the Rector's Office of the University of Ljubljana (UL). Prof. Dr Matej Černe from the School of Economics and Business, University of Ljubljana (UL EF), was named Mentor of the Year 2024.

Opening of additional study spaces during the exam period
During the exam period, students will also be able to prepare for their exams on weekends in the study rooms of the UL Faculty of Arts, the UL School of Economics and Business and the UL Faculty of Law. The rooms will be available to all students between 18 May and 29 June 2025.

UL School of Economics and Business launches redesigned website
On Monday, 31 March 2025, the School of Economics and Business of the University of Ljubljana (UL EF) launched its newly redesigned website. The year-long project involved over 30 subject-area editors, who will continue to manage and maintain their respective content. The website was developed in collaboration with Innovatif, selected through a public tender process.

The way we work has changed significantly in recent years, and in the coming years, it will become even more digital, mobile, and tailored to individuals. Digital nomads play a crucial role in this transformation. What drives them to choose this lifestyle, how do they shape their careers, and in what ways do they build their networks? Answers to these questions are provided by a study, which included Professor Dr. Matej Černe from the School of Economics and Business at the University of Ljubljana, analyzing over 66,000 discussions on the Reddit forum Digital Nomad.

In Slovenia, the majority of employees from third countries have vocational or secondary education
In Bulgaria and Slovenia, 80% of companies employed workers from third countries, while in Croatia and Slovakia, two-thirds of companies did so, and in Hungary only one-third. The most educated foreign workers were employed by companies in Bulgaria and Hungary, where over 40% of foreign workers held a university degree. On the other hand, three-quarters of foreign employees in Croatian companies had only primary or vocational education, while in Slovenia and Slovakia, this figure was around 60%.

If done effectively, it can contribute to the faster adoption of sustainable practices and the improvement of public awareness. In doing so, it should not only focus on avoiding greenwashing but also on how to effectively engage stakeholders in complex sustainability challenges.
