About the programme

The main objective of the bachelor's study programme Librarianship and Information Science is to educate professionals in the field of creation, selection, organising, storage and dissemination of publications and information. It is intended for all who want to work in libraries, publishing houses and bookstores, and also provides employment in various organisations which, due to their basic activity, also deal with these fields. The programme also provides a basis for lifelong professional and scientific training, as candidates acquire knowledge and skills to master the world of information.

General competencies of both courses of the first-cycle programme Librarianship and Information Science are:
•    Ability to effectively use information technology and information resources;
•    Understanding of scientific apparatus and basic research methods;
•    Ability to collaborate and work in teams, but also to work independently;
•    Ability to transfer knowledge through appropriate written and spoken forms;
•    Awareness of the importance of lifelong learning and adapting to change;
•    Ability to independently acquire knowledge;
•    Ability to transfer knowledge into practice;
•    Critical thinking and creativity;
•    Sensitivity to ethical standards and commitment to professional ethics.

Graduates of the combined course of the Librarianship and Information Science programme acquire knowledge and skills from two disciplines. In addition to the goals they achieve in the field of each of the two selected disciplines, they are also able to link the acquired competencies with other disciplines.
