About the programme

The aim of the Master's programme in Pedagogy is to expand and deepen the knowledge acquired in the first-cycle pedagogical studies, to train students for independent professional and research work, analysis of complex pedagogical phenomena and education policies, and the formation of their own ideas and interpretations.

The study of pedagogy combines the social science and humanistic dimensions. The social science dimension of the study is related to research and understanding of upbringing and education in the context of social practices and visions of sustainable development of the individual and the community. The humanistic dimension addresses the development of sensitivity, ethical orientation and personal engagement of students as a condition for the quality performance of professions in education.

Students learn about the functioning of educational institutions and their management, the role of pedagogical counselling, the work and professional development of teachers, and learn about the areas of pedagogical and psychological treatment of often excluded social groups (people with special needs, migrants, socially vulnerable people, etc.). They learn to work responsibly with people, the community, and information, and gain insight into the importance of connecting professional work with their own creative work in the fields of science, culture, art, sports, and environmental protection.

The aim of the study is also to prepare for further learning, professional development and doctoral studies. Students acquire broad, in-depth and critical knowledge in several special areas of pedagogy.

Single-subject studies allow for specialization in certain areas of pedagogy: students can focus more on in-depth knowledge of planning learning, lessons, educational and counselling activities or more on in-depth knowledge on the leadership of teams, classes and institutions, including the education systems development. Some subject-specific competencies depend on the choice of elective courses.

The program prepares students for work in various activities of preschools, schools and other institutions dealing with education and training (media, cultural institutions, non-governmental organizations, etc.). Most directly, students are prepared for work in counselling teams of preschools, primary and secondary schools and in development and management positions throughout the educational vertical: in preschools, primary, secondary and grammar schools, in higher education institutions and in professional institutes.
