Moodle in education 1
In this workshop, you will learn about the basic features of the virtual learning environment Moodle and how to use it most effectively in the teaching process. First, you’ll learn about the basic options for organizing the learning process and materials, as well as the basic ways to present content in the virtual learning environment. You’ll then explore collaborative learning in the virtual learning environment and try your hand at creating collaborative activities, such as forums, chats, glossaries, and wikis. You’ll also learn about various activities for assessing knowledge, such as assignments, quizzes, surveys, and multiple-choice questions, and by the end of the workshop, you’ll explore a few more ways to incorporate gamification into the virtual learning environment.

Workshop Objectives
Objectives of the online workshop:
- using the virtual learning environment to support the learning process;
- understanding the opportunities that the use of ICT (virtual learning environment Moodle) brings to the learning process;
- virtual learning environments as an opportunity to support and enrich the learning process and to promote a student-centered approach to teaching and learning;
- planning a strategy and integrating virtual learning environments into one’s own teaching practice.
More about the workshop
This workshop is designed to help you learn how to effectively incorporate the basic features of the virtual learning environment Moodle into the teaching process. In addition to the introduction and conclusion, it consists of 5 chapters:
- Organizing work and study in the virtual learning environment
In this section, you will learn about the activities available in the virtual learning environment Moodle that you can use to support your work with digital resources. You will learn how to navigate the virtual learning environment, how to manage course administration, how to create folders, tags, and files, and how to add URL links to the virtual learning environment Moodle.
In the final part of this chapter, as a condition for advancing to the next chapter, you will set up a virtual learning environment for a selected content module, in which you will organize the content and add various digital resources based on the knowledge you have acquired in this module. We also recommend participating in the forum, where you can share your experiences with others regarding the organization of work and study in the virtual learning environment Moodle.
- Collaborative learning in the virtual learning environment
In this topic, you will learn about activities in the virtual learning environment Moodle that you can use to support collaborative learning. You will learn about the forum, which allows students and instructors to exchange ideas by posting comments as part of a discussion over an extended period of time. You will learn about the chat feature, which enables synchronous communication between students and instructors. You will also learn about the glossary, which offers both educators and students the opportunity to create a collection of terms and definitions, and the wiki feature, which enables quick and easy collaborative document creation.
At the end of the chapter, two required assignments await you. The first assignment is collaborative dictionary creation, in which each participant adds at least one example of collaborative learning using ICT in their field. For the second assignment, you are invited to create an activity in the virtual learning environment that facilitates collaborative learning in the learning process. You can also participate in the forum, where you can share your experiences with collaborative learning in the virtual learning environment Moodle.
- Assessment in the virtual learning environment
In this topic, you will learn about activities in the virtual learning environment Moodle that you can use in your work to support the assessment of student knowledge. To this end, you will learn about the “Assignment” activity, which provides a space for students to submit assignments that the teacher grades and provides feedback on. You will also learn about the “Quiz” activity and its various question types, as well as the “Choice” and “Survey” activities, which also enable the assessment of student learning.
In the concluding section of this chapter, you will find a mandatory quiz designed to test your understanding of the content presented in this section, as well as a mandatory assignment in which you will try your hand at creating a tool for assessing student knowledge in the virtual learning environment Moodle. You are also invited to participate in the forum on the topic of assessment in the Moodle learning environment.
- Gamification in the Moodle learning environment
In this topic, you will learn about activities in the Moodle learning environment that you can use in your work to support gamified learning. The activities in the Moodle learning environment that support game-based learning—and which you’ll explore in the basic workshop—include Hangman, Who Wants to Be a Millionaire, Crossword Puzzle, and Quizventure.
In the final part of the chapter, you’ll be required to complete the crossword puzzle and submit your assignment, in which you’ll try your hand at creating a game or a gamification element in the virtual learning environment Moodle. You can also participate in the forum on the topic of gamification in the virtual learning environment Moodle.
Requirements for Recognition of Completed Online Workshops
Requirements for recognition of completion of the online workshop:
- During the scheduled workshop period, you are cordially invited to participate in various activities (discussions, etc.) within the individual modules; these are recommended but not mandatory;
- During the scheduled workshop period, it is mandatory to participate in at least one open discussion;
- During the scheduled workshop period, it is mandatory to submit a project upon completion of each module;
- During the scheduled workshop period, it is mandatory to successfully complete the activities upon completion of each module;
- During the scheduled workshop period, it is mandatory to successfully complete the final activity;
- At the end of the workshop, it is mandatory to complete a survey in order to gather participant feedback as a basis for optimizing future iterations of the online workshop.
After successfully completing all activities, participants will receive a certificate in the virtual learning environment and, a few days after the course ends, a certificate of completion of the pedagogical training by mail (sent to the faculty).
