EUTOPIA_HEALTH at UL: From the Biological Impact of Digital Environments to the Challenges of Addiction
On March 11, as part of the international EUTOPIA_HEALTH project, the University of Ljubljana hosted a day packed with content dedicated to the intersection of health and digitalization. Through a morning expert panel and an afternoon Science Café, the event offered a comprehensive look into the future of medicine, where technology is no longer just an external tool but a biological factor that influences our epigenome. Experts from various disciplines highlighted the path from advanced clinical solutions, such as socially intelligent robots, to the urgent need for digital market regulation to protect users’ mental health.

Results Announced for the EUTOPIA_HEALTH Seed Funding Call
The EUTOPIA_HEALTH seed funding call generated significant interest among the project partners: three partners (NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal; Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, Romania; University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) submitted a total of 26 proposals. Six projects were selected, two from each partner. The selected projects will receive funding over a two-year period.

Successful Completion of the First EUTOPIA_HEALTH Training for Research Managers
In November, the University of Ljubljana successfully carried out a month-long training programme for research managers. The training was developed and delivered within the EUTOPIA_HEALTH project, with the aim of presenting the diversity and complexity of the field covered by professional staff working in research and project offices.

Ethics in the Digital Age: Lessons from EUTOPIA HEALTH Workshop
On 20–21 November 2025, University of Ljubljana hosted the EUTOPIA HEALTH Workshop on Ethical and Professionalism Aspects of Dealing with Health-Related Datasets. The two-day event brought together researchers, educators, and data stewards to explore the ethical challenges and professional responsibilities associated with health data.

EUTOPIA_HEALTH hackathon: innovative solutions to health and nutrition challenges
In September, University of Ljubljana hosted the EUTOPIA_HEALTH hackathon, bringing together researchers, students, and innovation experts from universities, participating within project EUTOPIA_HEALTH. The event aimed to co-create innovative health and nutrition solutions in collaboration with Roche Slovenia and Juicy Marbles.

EUTOPIA_HEALTH Science Cafe: caring for drinking water is not a matter of rules, but a common concern for all
At the Science Cafe event, which aimed to transfer knowledge about drinking water from academia to the public, we explored how drinking water is produced, the factors that influence it, and how individuals can improve water quality. We also discussed how to better inform the public about the state of their local drinking water.

EUTOPIA_HEALTH training workshop: Impact and science communication
The University of Ljubljana organised a two-day on-site training workshop on impact and science communication for researchers and other non-academic staff as part of the EUTOPIA_HEALTH project. The aim of the workshop was to provide participants with tools to achieve a better and more sustainable impact of research and projects on society and industry, and to to improve the clarity and effectiveness of communication of research results to the public, business and policy makers.

EUTOPIA_HEALTH Science Cafe: Science from the comfort of the living room - talking about sleep
On World Mental Health Day, 10 October, the University of Ljubljana organised a Science Cafe on the topic of sleep in the lounge of the University Rehabilitation Institute Soča (URI Soča). Sleep disorders in general are a serious public health problem as they increase the risk of chronic diseases, reduce quality of life and negatively affect productivity and safety. The event, which is part of the EUTOPIA_HEALTH project, brought together parents of children with developmental disabilities, professional staff from the URI Soča and researchers from the Department of Public Health at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana (MF UL).
