About the programme

The double-subject Master's degree programme in Polish Studies offers two tracks: a two-subject course and a two-subject teaching course. The first focuses on developing translation skills and deepening linguistic and literary knowledge, while the second is dedicated to training students to teach Polish as a foreign language, both in theory and in practice. Teaching placements and classroom observations are partly carried out at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, and partly during a three-week internship at the University of Łódź in Poland.

The programme provides students with in-depth knowledge of the Polish language, literature, and culture, an understanding of Polish–Slovenian relations, specific philological competencies, and a broad humanistic education. It prepares students for intellectually demanding and creative tasks, and especially for independent research, translation, literary and academic criticism, and interdisciplinary work in a wider intercultural context.

Graduates may pursue careers as translators or interpreters, teachers of Polish as a foreign language, editors, and cultural mediators. They may also find employment in libraries, research institutes, publishing, the media, international organisations, and the cultural or tourism sectors. In addition, they are well equipped for roles in business environments—particularly in companies operating in Central and Eastern Europe or collaborating with Polish partners—where language proficiency, intercultural competence, and analytical insight are highly valued.
