Students who have made significant achievements in the fields of sport, art and culture and in international competitions, and students who are parents until their child starts compulsory schooling, may be granted special student status. Below you will find useful information on the type of status, the sources of support and the procedures for obtaining the status.

Status of categorised athlete/trainer student

Categorised athlete students are students who in addition to studying are involved competitively in a branch of sports and achieve significant sports results, and students who are trainers of categorised athletes.

Conditions for eligibility:

  • categorisation confirmed by the Slovenian Olympic Committee (hereinafter: SOC) as an athlete in the Olympic, world, international, promising, national or youth class or an equivalent international certificate; 
  • elite achievements at the national or international level in sports branches and disciplines;
  • the official appointment of a student by the national sports federation or club as a trainer or assistant trainer and their direct involvement in the preparation and implementation of categorised athletes programs, as confirmed by the individual national sports federation or other appropriate sports body (e.g. club);
  • elite achievements of a disabled sportsperson at the national or international level.

Sources of support:

Special status of recognised artist/creative professional student

Recognised artists/creative professionals are students who in addition to studying are involved in artistic or cultural activity that is important in the national or international context.

Conditions for eligibility:

  • membership in a national or international society or federation of societies involved in the arts and culture, as demonstrated by certification of membership in the relevant society or status of independent artist or creative professional; 
  • authorship or involvement in the production of public artistic or cultural work.

Status of students who participate in (sectoral) international competitions

Students participating in sectoral international competitions are students who participate in sectoral international competitions as part of their studies or in addition to their studies.

Conditions for eligibility:

  • during the period of study they can demonstrate participation in at least two (sectoral) international competitions in the field that involves the study program in which they are enrolled, and at the time of submitting an application for such status they are registered for participation in a competition.

Status of parent student

Parent students are students who have a child/children who are not yet enrolled in compulsory education and/or who have a child during their studies.

Conditions for eligibility:

Students have a child not yet enrolled in the compulsory schooling and/or during the period of study they become parents. Parents students who become parents during their studies may extend their student status by one year for each child born.

The status of parent is demonstrated by a birth certificate or other appropriate evidence of birth of a child.
