The University of Ljubljana is committed to fostering collaboration with SMUL members through national, European and international projects, doctoral studies, research projects with students, participation in committees, guest lectures, and other academic activities.

We also invite SMUL members to host students and researchers from the University of Ljubljana, and to actively shape SMUL’s agenda by contributing their own proposals for collaboration.

To facilitate these connections, the University of Ljubljana supports various collaboration schemes and initiatives and offers assistance in identifying suitable candidates (UL researchers) for joint projects.

Research projects with students of the University of Ljubljana

Each year, the University of Ljubljana Development Fund (RSUL) issues an internal call for research projects involving University of Ljubljana students and Slovenian researchers abroad. The purpose of the call is to co-fund short research projects involving Slovenian researchers abroad and first-, second- or third-cycle students at the University of Ljubljana.

The call is published once a year; in 2025, the deadlines for applications were on 6 March, 8 May and 22 June 2025.

For further information on the internal call for proposals, please email at eusklad@uni-lj.si.

MSCA IF: We also invite you to express your interest in seconding University of Ljubljana researchers participating in the MSCA IF programme (must be specified at the project application stage). For more information email at msca@uni-lj.si.

Collaboration with doctoral students

The University of Ljubljana organises seminars, conferences and other events aimed at doctoral students, providing opportunities to network, share experiences and discuss the challenges they face during and after their studies.

Through these events, we aim to raise awareness of how we can do our part to overcome barriers and challenges at the start of our careers, present opportunities for active involvement in academia, research and development, share how to connect with leading international research organisations and collaborate in scientific research and other projects, and shed light on how to contribute to tackling global challenges and knowledge transfer.

Opportunities for collaboration include:

  • inclusion in the list of renowned teachers and scientists who participate in the overseeing of doctoral students at the University of Ljubljana as supervisors, co-supervisors or committee members,
  • participation in annual events hosted by the Doctoral School,
  • participation in doctoral conferences,
  • hosting doctoral students in your research laboratories.

Knowledge transfer

Transfer of knowledge to the business sector is a strategic mission of the University of Ljubljana. To this end, the Knowledge Transfer Office operates at the University, linking research and business. It oversees intellectual property management, commercialisation of inventions, and promotes a portfolio of technologies available for sale, licensing or partnership.

The Knowledge Transfer Office actively promotes entrepreneurship within the University, supports the creation of spin-out companies, and works closely with the Ljubljana University Incubator, to help students develop their business ideas.

The Office is an access point for companies and organisations that wish to cooperate with the University. Through its “Your Challenges” service, it connects businesses with the appropriate experts and looks for suitable solutions.

Opportunities for collaboration include:

  • networking with international industry and business partners,
  • organising entrepreneurship training sessions,
  • promoting entrepreneurship among researchers,
  • presenting development trends and international opportunities for projects.

If you are interested in participating, please email at ipr@uni-lj.si.
