The University of Ljubljana Global Alumni and Associates Network (SMUL) connects Slovenian scientists, professors and other distinguished individuals affiliated with Slovenia and active in academic, research and development environments abroad.
Founded in 2015, the network now includes over 250 members who help strengthen the University’s international ties and visibility.
The SMUL Council acts as an advisory body, guiding the network’s activities. It is composed of the President, the Vice‑Rector of the University of Ljubljana, and two members working abroad.

SMUL Conference

In 2024, we organised the first international SMUL conference, where lecturers from Slovenia and abroad spoke about, among other things, the return of Slovenian experts from abroad and the importance of organised knowledge and universities in the modern world and how knowledge can contribute to a fairer society.

Leadership

University of Ljubljana - partner in the regional project URGE

he University of Ljubljana is participating as a partner in the project "Universities Revitalising Growth and Empowerment in the Danube Region (URGE)", which is being implemented as part of the Interreg Danube Transnational Cooperation Programme. Its main objective is to establish a joint scientific diaspora network, supported by institutional frameworks and practical mechanisms that mitigate the effects of brain drain and foster inclusive innovation.
