Opis gostovanja
Dr Klementina Fon Tacer is an Assistant Professor of Reproductive Biology and Oncology at the Texas Tech University School of Veterinary Medicine. She earned both her degree and PhD at the University of Ljubljana. Following postdoctoral training at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, TX, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN, she joined the newly established School of Veterinary Medicine at Texas Tech University in Amarillo, TX.
The main goal of Dr Fon Tacer’s research is to uncover novel mechanisms that evolved to protect mammalian germ cells against stress, discover how and why they were co-opted in cancer, and ultimately apply these insights for the advancement of cancer treatment, fertility preservation, and conservation of endangered species. With an interdisciplinary program and comparative approach, she interconnects veterinary and human medicine to ultimately benefit animal and human wellbeing and health.
Despite working abroad, Dr Fon Tacer has remained connected with Slovenia and the University of Ljubljana. She has co-supervised several master’s students and a doctoral candidate, collaborates on research projects, and since 2021 has served as Editor-in-Chief of the Slovenski Veterinarski Zbornik, published by the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, University of Ljubljana.
Dr Fon Tacer welcomes motivated doctoral and postdoctoral students interested in the research areas outlined above. She is also open to collaborative research projects with researchers at the University of Ljubljana.
