List of SMUL members willing to host students and collaborate with UL researchers. SMUL mentors are researchers who work in different fields, have diverse experience and can share their knowledge, advice and experience from their research area and in seeking opportunities at home and abroad. Erasmus+ funds and funds from the Public Call for Co-financing of Visits can be used to carry out the visit.

We will update the list of SMUL mentors on an ongoing basis, so please follow our posts regularly.

Financing options

Erasmus+ funds

Erasmus+ funds can be used to cover the costs of hosting.

Erasmus+ study exchanges are limited to a minimum of 2 and a maximum of 12 months at each level of study (undergraduate, master's, and doctoral). Applications can be submitted within the Erasmus+ call for applications at the UL member (academy/faculty) where the student is enrolled. (The call for long-term student mobility in 2025/2026 has already closed, and we expect a new one in December 2025 for mobility in 2026/2027).

However, the call for short-term doctoral mobility, which lasts from 5 to 30 days, is open. More information is available here in Slovenian language.

To participate in Erasmus+ mobility, students must apply at the UL member institution (academy/faculty) where they are enrolled.

Funds from the Public Call for Co-financing of Visits

For the implementation of the visit, it is also possible to use the funds from the Public Call for Co-financing of Visits of Slovenian Experts from Abroad to Slovenian Higher Education Institutions and Research Organizations and Study or Scientific Visits of Students Abroad, which allows for a 3- to a maximum of 10-week study visit abroad. The funds can be used for visits or study visits that begin in the period from 1 January to 31 December 2025 inclusive. The application deadline expired on 30 September 2025, and the next one is expected to be announced in December. More about the call

ASEF Junior Fellows program

The American Slovenian Education Foundation (ASEF) Junior Fellows programme is a two-year programme. Its purpose is to strengthen research and study exchanges between Slovenia and other countries, enabling talented Slovenian students to realise their full potential. In the first year, students undertake a 10-week research visit at a university or research institution in their field of study or expertise. In the second year, Junior Fellows attend all events organised by ASEF and participate in ASEF promotional activities. More information and the application are available here.
