Dr. Miloš Žefran is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Illinois Chicago (UIC). He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Ljubljana, earning degrees in Electrical Engineering and Mathematics, and a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering. He continued his studies in the United States, obtaining a master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and a PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pennsylvania. After completing his doctorate, he was a National Science Foundation (NSF) Postdoctoral Fellow at the California Institute of Technology. He also served as a faculty member at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and was a visiting professor at the University of Pisa.
His research covers a wide range of topics, including human–robot collaboration, robotic surgery, technology to support older adults, autonomous robotic systems, and the interpretation of error-correcting codes discovered through deep learning. His work employs control theory, optimization, and machine learning. In 2001, he received the prestigious NSF CAREER Award.
Dr. Žefran welcomes motivated students interested in the research areas mentioned above. He is also open to collaborative research projects with researchers at the University of Ljubljana.
