About the programme

Computing and IT is one of the most pervasive fields today, with a presence in all sectors of the economy and in all areas of science. The rapid development of the field dictates the need for highly educated people capable of developing new computer and information technologies and integrating them into innovative environments. The main objective of the doctoral programme in Computer Science and Informatics is to train highly qualified professionals and future scientists who will be able to carry out demanding independent research and development work in the field of computer science and informatics. In addition, we expect doctoral students to acquire the necessary communication skills, the ability to report on scientific research achievements and to develop the ability to work in interdisciplinary teams. The main focus is on independent research work in the field of the doctoral thesis and on guiding the student on his/her scientific path.

Admission requirements and application for enrolment

Call for Enrolment in Doctoral Degree Programmes in the 2026/2027 Academic Year

For the call for enrolment, candidates have to apply on the eVŠ online portal.

At the latest at the time of enrolment, the candidate must submit a written agreement from the mentor or possible co-mentor to accept the mentoring or co-mentoring. At the same time, the candidate must also submit a brief conceptual outline of the research.

Enrolment in the doctoral study programme is open to candidates who have completed:

· a 2nd-cycle study programme;

· a study programme leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or another integrated master's degree programme evaluated at 300 ECTS credits;

· a study programme leading to an academic higher education qualification, adopted before 11 June 2004;

· a professional higher education programme adopted prior to 11 June 2004 and a study programme to obtain a specialised qualification. Before enrolment, these candidates must complete course units consisting of a maximum of 60 ECTS credits in the second-cycle programme in Computer and Information Science. The study requirements (selection of courses) are determined for such candidates by the Faculty’s study committee, which takesinto account the candidate’s field of education (type of programme the candidate has completed);

· a study programme leading to a master of science degree. Candidates will have study requirements in the amount of 60 ECTS credits recognised.

Students from abroad applying for the doctoral programme are subject to the same conditions as Slovenian citizens, provided they have completed an equivalent education abroad. The equivalence of previously acquired education in a foreign country will be established by means of the procedure for the recognition of foreign qualifications for the purposes of further education in accordance with the Statutes of the University of Ljubljana.
