About the programme
The Department of Industrial and Applied Arts boasts a long-standing tradition and plays an important role in developing Slovenian design. It is the only institution in Slovenia that offers a university-level study programme in this field. It is recognised as one of the leading educational centres for design in the broader region. Our mission is to foster the development of creative, critically minded, and socially responsible designers capable of creating innovative, sustainable, and technologically advanced solutions. The programme integrates artistic expression, design methodologies, and a research-based approach, allowing students to develop their creative language and professional identity.
At the undergraduate level, the programme aims to provide students with a solid foundation in design processes, materials, technologies, and user experience. It enables them to understand and engage with both industrial and unique design practices through design methodologies while developing their individual design abilities.
Through hands-on courses and the guidance of faculty members who rank among the leading design experts in Slovenia, we support students in cultivating problem-identification and problem-solving skills. These are further enriched with knowledge from historical and theoretical subjects. The multidisciplinary study programme is based on an individual pedagogical approach, guiding students through lectures, seminars, and project work toward the holistic development of their design identity.
A strong emphasis is also placed on practical training and collaboration with professional environments, allowing students to gain concrete experience and insights into the field. Students can choose between two specialisations: Industrial Design and Applied Arts.
The programme also provides a foundation for further in-depth industrial design and applied arts research at the postgraduate level.
