About the programme

At the undergraduate level, students of academic bachelor study programe Conservation and restoration of works of art learn the methods of research, preventive conservation and active conservation/restoration in the area of portable paintings, polychrome wooden plastics, wall paintings and stone plastics.

To facilitate understanding of the structures of works of art students will acquire drawing, painting and sculpting skills, both in terms of the knowledge of artistic language and technology. During the theoretical and studio courses students will acquire the basic methods of documentation, conservation and restoration procedures as well as learning about the materials, tools and equipment required for this work.

The knowledge of natural sciences, art theory and art history acquired during the theoretical courses will help them search for conservation/restoration solutions. Students develop the skills for rescuing damaged works of art during practical work in the studios of ALUO UL, museums, galleries and the Restoration Centre of the Protection of Cultural Heritage of Slovenia.

In the final study year and within the mandatory practical work at one of the above institutions they will acquire an in-depth knowledge of the technical, scientific, artistic and organisational aspects of conservation/restoration.
