Centre of Excellence in Green Heritage Science to Be Established in Slovenia
In a collaborative European partnership, the University of Ljubljana is in the process of establishing the Centre of Excellence in Green Heritage Science. The new Centre will bring together an interdisciplinary community of researchers – from archaeologists and chemists to computer scientists and conservator-restorers – who develop knowledge in the understanding and management of cultural heritage. The development of the Centre is being led by Professor Matija Strlič.

The University of Ljubljana presents four major interdisciplinary research projects worth over EUR 10 million
At a press conference today, the University of Ljubljana (UL) unveiled four internationally groundbreaking interdisciplinary research projects, which will receive a total of more than EUR 10 million in funding over the next five years. The projects were selected through an internal call for proposals issued by the UL, aimed at fostering cooperation among its member faculties and strengthening research excellence and international visibility.

Meeting between the Marshal of the Polish Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska and Polish language students at the University of Ljubljana
On 7 October 2025, the Marshal of the Polish Senate, Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, visited the University of Ljubljana (UL). During her visit, she met with Polish language students in the Assembly Hall and learned about the opportunities for interlingual and intercultural cooperation between the UL and Polish universities and institutions.

Winners of the Dr Uroš Seljak Prizes and Commendations for 2025
The recipients of the Dr Uroš Seljak Prizes and Commendations for 2025 have been announced. These awards are presented for the best scientific publications by students in the first and second cycles of study in Slovenia. The call for applications is issued each academic year by the University of Ljubljana (UL) in cooperation with the American Slovenian Educational Foundation (ASEF).

Opening of additional study spaces during the exam period
During the exam period, students will also be able to prepare for their exams on weekends in the study rooms of the UL Faculty of Arts, the UL School of Economics and Business and the UL Faculty of Law. The rooms will be available to all students between 18 May and 29 June 2025.

The Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Innovation has announced the recipients of this year’s Zois and Puh awards and the Slovenian Ambassador of Science award. University of Ljubljana scientists are among the recipients.

A new generation of students from Ukraine successfully completes a course in Slovene at UL
Students at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Ljubljana, from the Slavic Studies department, offered free help in the form of Slovenian language lessons, socialising, support and getting to know life in Ljubljana. The students who taught Slovenian were coordinated by Urša Glušič and Jure Miholič.

How successful was psychology in policy-making during the pandemic?
The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound effect on people's daily lives. Decision-makers had to make decisions and implement measures to curb the spread of the virus, which impacted many. Because similar situations are likely to occur again in the future, it is important to explore how psychology can help develop more efficient measures to curb the pandemic. This was the focus of the study, published in thejournal Nature and conducted by researchers from over 30 countries, including Dr Žan Lep from the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana.

Prof. Mirjam Mencej has won a prominent ERC Advanced grant project
Prof. Mirjam Mencej, PhD, from the Department of Ethnology and Cultural Anthropology at the University of Ljubljana's Faculty of Arts has won the European Research Council (ERC) Advanced Grant for established researchers for the project "The roles of the agency of the dead in the lives of individuals in contemporary society (DEAGENCY)". The project, worth almost EUR 2 million, will run for five years, starting on 1 September 2023.
