Digital literacy among educators and students

Objectives:

• C1: To carry out the planned activities in accordance with the action plan and the project implementation timetable
• C2: To develop an extended support group that will provide systematic support for the development of educators’ digital knowledge, competences and skills, and for the integration of ICT into the teaching process, with the aim of promoting the development of students’ digital knowledge, competences and skills
• C3: Preparation of interim and final reports containing the results of monitoring and evaluation within the framework of the project
• C4: Communication and promotion of the project at the University of Ljubljana’s constituent institutions and beyond

Brief description of the work package:

Through the ‘status analysis’ activity, we aim to assess the existing digital competences, knowledge and skills among teaching staff and students at the University of Ljubljana. The current status analysis will provide us with baseline data and findings that will serve as the starting point for establishing various support services, which will form part of the emerging educational ecosystem in the field of digital knowledge, competences and skills within the ULTRA project.

In conducting this analysis, we will base our findings on data collected in various ways:

• by reviewing and analysing course syllabuses
• by assessing the baseline digital competences of UL teaching staff and students using the online questionnaires DigCompEdu CheckIn (for teaching staff) and MyDigiSkills (for students)
• by reviewing examples of good practice in promoting the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills at comparable institutions both in Slovenia and internationally.

The data obtained will serve as a starting point for the next activity and will provide us with a more detailed insight into the current state of digital knowledge, skills and competences at the University of Ljubljana’s constituent institutions.

Objectives:

• C1: Analysis of the current state of the didactic use of ICT in the teaching process, with a focus on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills among University of Ljubljana teaching staff and students
• C2: Baseline assessment of digital knowledge, competences and skills among teaching staff (DigCompEdu) and students (DigComp)
• C3: Analysis of good practices in promoting the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills at comparable institutions in Slovenia and internationally

Results:

• R1: Document: Analysis of the current state of the didactic use of ICT in the teaching process, with a focus on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills among teaching staff and students at the University of Ljubljana
• R2: Document: Analysis of good practices for promoting the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills in comparable institutions at home and abroad

Brief description of the work package:

Through the ‘micro-credentials’ activity and the development of a range of training programmes for teaching staff and students, we aim – based on an analysis of the current situation – to gradually build up and expand, over several cycles (at least two), the range of support services for teaching staff and students at the University of Ljubljana and beyond. These include:

• organising and running ‘Teachers to Teachers’ and ‘Students to Students’ events;
• developing and running workshops (online and in person);
• developing materials for the use of ICT in the teaching process;
• organising and running individual and group counselling sessions on the use of ICT in the teaching process.

The support services developed will also serve as a basis for defining micro-credentials for the attainment of digital knowledge, competences and skills.

A system will be developed or upgraded through which the support services will be delivered, and the communication channels will be standardised to inform UL teaching staff and students, as well as the wider public, about opportunities to participate in the support services.

Objectives:

• C1: A range of training programmes designed to equip University of Ljubljana (UL) teaching staff and students with lifelong digital knowledge, competences and skills for successful study and subsequent career progression, based on an analysis of the current situation.
• C2: A system of micro-credentials for the lifelong learning of digital knowledge, competences and skills by UL teaching staff and students, as well as other interested parties, to support successful study and subsequent career progression, based on an analysis of the current situation.

Results:

• R1: A training system developed for the acquisition of lifelong digital knowledge, competences and skills by UL teaching staff and students
• R2: At least 150 learning resources developed or updated
• R3: At least 300 support activities carried out
• R4: An ecosystem of micro-credentials defined for the lifelong learning of digital knowledge, competences and skills among teaching staff, University of Ljubljana students and other interested parties

Brief description of the work package:

Through the ‘Establishment of a Smart Classroom’ activity, we aim – based on an analysis of the current situation and the needs expressed by teaching staff and students at the University of Ljubljana – to develop a flexible environment that will integrate physical (e.g. adaptable lecture theatres with the necessary equipment) and virtual spaces (e.g. Moodle/Canvas), which will be used to deliver various forms of ICT-supported learning. A space will be established to demonstrate various possibilities for the didactic use of ICT, with an emphasis on developing the digital knowledge, competences and skills of UL teaching staff and students.

The project will involve the purchase, installation and integration of various software, multimedia and hardware components for a model classroom into a comprehensive concept, which will be tested over at least two cycles and upgraded as necessary. Various scenarios for the use of the smart classroom across different subject areas will be developed, along with guidelines for setting up smart classrooms at various University of Ljubljana faculties.

Planning for the innovative use of ICT in the teaching process will be carried out within the framework of pilot projects for the modernisation or development of new courses (ULTRA).

Objectives:

• C1: Establishment of a model smart classroom
• C2: Planning and implementation of the teaching process through the innovative use of ICT in the smart classroom, with a focus on developing the digital knowledge, competences and skills of teaching staff and students

Results:

• R1: Establishment of two model smart classrooms
• R2: Document: ‘Establishment of a smart classroom for the didactic use of ICT with an emphasis on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills among UL students’
• R3: Provision of support for the implementation of 11 pilot projects to modernise or develop new study modules through the didactic use of ICT, with a focus on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills.

Brief description of the work package:

As part of the project, teachers and students will take part in various support activities within the emerging educational ecosystem. We will monitor these activities and carry out an evaluation after each cycle; based on the results, we will adapt the delivery of support services for the following period.

Through this evaluation, we aim to assess the impact of the services offered in order to develop

• guidelines for establishing or upgrading a comprehensive support environment for the acquisition of digital knowledge, competences and skills by teachers and students
• guidelines for the use of ICT in the delivery of courses, with a focus on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills among teaching staff and students

We will once again assess the digital competences of teaching staff and students at the University of Ljubljana (UL) using self-assessment forms and forms completed following the delivery of various support services. The results obtained will enable us to adapt the range of support services on offer (upgrading workshops, advisory sessions and materials) and to refine the defined micro-credentials for digital knowledge, competences and skills.

Objectives:

• C1: Evaluation of the implementation of and participation by teaching staff and students in a comprehensive support environment (training, e-services, e-content) for the acquisition of digital knowledge, competences and skills
• C2: Evaluation of the implementation of updated study modules through the innovative use of ICT in the teaching process
• C3: Final assessment of the digital knowledge, competences and skills of teachers (DigCompEdu) and students (DigComp)

• R1: Document: Guidelines for establishing or upgrading a comprehensive support environment for the acquisition of digital knowledge, competences and skills by teachers and students
• R2: Document: Guidelines for the use of ICT in the delivery of study modules with a focus on the development of digital knowledge, competences and skills among educators and students
