    EUTOPIA Ideas Club in Ljubljana: European Values in Action

    The University of Ljubljana proudly hosted the third edition of the EUTOPIA Ideas Club, a student-led, multilingual debate initiative that fosters European identity and inclusive citizenship. The Ideas Club is designed to raise awareness of European values by promoting intercultural understanding and participatory dialogue across borders. The event was organized in collaboration with EUTOPIA Connected Community Working with University Students for Inclusion, Solidarity and Citizen Participation in the EU. 30 students from all partner universities participated in the event.

    Freshers’ welcome and the official start of the 2025/2026 academic year

    On Wednesday, 1 October, the University of Ljubljana (UL) and its Student Council (ŠS UL) held their traditional event in Congress Square to welcome new students to the academic community. The attendees were welcomed by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič, the President of the UL Student Council, Maksim Miklič, and the Mayor of the City of Ljubljana, Zoran Janković. They were joined by the deans of the 23 faculties and three academies of the University of Ljubljana – the oldest and most successful higher education and research institution in Slovenia. Jet Black Diamonds and Koala Voice provided the excellent musical atmosphere to the event.

    Inauguration of Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič at the beginning of his second term as the Rector of the University of Ljubljana

    A ceremony was held today in the Assembly Hall of the Rector’s Office of the University of Ljubljana (UL) to inaugurate Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič as the Rector of the UL upon the beginning of his second term of office. Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič thus became the second Rector in the history of the UL to be entrusted with two mandates – alongside Prof. Dr Jože Mencinger. The keynote speaker was the Rector of the Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Prof. Dr Tiziana Lippiello.

    Prof. Dr. Gregor Dolinar elected Vice-President of the Steering Comittee of the EUTOPIA Global Institute

    Last August, prof. dr. Gregor Dolinar was elected Vice-President of Steering Commitee of EUTOPIA Global Institute. The election of Prof. Dr. Gregor Dolinar to the Strategic Council supports the University of Ljubljana's strategic commitment to developing infrastructure at the international level.

    University of Ljubljana hosted Erasmus+ staff training

    Last week of March, the University of Ljubljana hosted two trainings for professional staff working in the field of international cooperation and projects within the Erasmus+ programme. The training aimed to facilitate the exchange of best practices and to reflect on the changes that the new Erasmus+ program perspective, set to begin in 2028, will bring.

    Researchers and company representatives from 18 countries on Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and a Clean Environment for a Healthy Life

    As part of the KRPAN project, the University of Ljubljana organized a networking event on 13 February 2025, titled "Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture, and a Clean Environment for a Healthy Life." The event was attended by over 80 researchers, research consultants, and company representatives from 18 European countries. In addition to Slovenian participants, the event was also attended by researchers and company representatives from Albania, Armenia, Belgium, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Croatia, Italy, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Romania, North Macedonia, Portugal, Serbia, and Tunisia.

    EUTOPIA_HEALTH training workshop: Impact and science communication

    The University of Ljubljana organised a two-day on-site training workshop on impact and science communication for researchers and other non-academic staff as part of the EUTOPIA_HEALTH project. The aim of the workshop was to provide participants with tools to achieve a better and more sustainable impact of research and projects on society and industry, and to to improve the clarity and effectiveness of communication of research results to the public, business and policy makers.

    From Posthumanism to Artificial Intelligence: Learning for an Intelligent Future at the EUTOPIA Autumn School on Ecological Intelligence

    The EUTOPIA Ecological Intelligence Autumn School, held on 21 and 22 November 2024 at the University of Ljubljana, brought together students and professors from the Universities of Amsterdam, Venice, Sarajevo, Prishtina, Tirana, Gjilan, Warwick, Malta, and Ljubljana. Designed as an interdisciplinary platform, the event focused on exploring ecological intelligence and its importance in addressing contemporary ecological and technological challenges.

    EUTOPIA_HEALTH Science Cafe: Science from the comfort of the living room - talking about sleep

    On World Mental Health Day, 10 October, the University of Ljubljana organised a Science Cafe on the topic of sleep in the lounge of the University Rehabilitation Institute Soča (URI Soča). Sleep disorders in general are a serious public health problem as they increase the risk of chronic diseases, reduce quality of life and negatively affect productivity and safety. The event, which is part of the EUTOPIA_HEALTH project, brought together parents of children with developmental disabilities, professional staff from the URI Soča and researchers from the Department of Public Health at the Medical Faculty of the University of Ljubljana (MF UL).

    The publication EUTOPIA Review is a meeting point of ideas, a platform that gives space to different voices and schools of thought, as well as a forum for interdisciplinary scientific discussions. The publication contains the papers of the most promising researchers in the EUTOPIA Alliance, and the honor of writing the first chapter of the first edition belonged to Slovenian scientist and Nobel lavreate, prof. dr. Lučka Kajfež Bogataj. She wrote about the role of the city in reducing global pressures on the environment.

    UL celebrated EUTOPIA day for the first time: international networking to tackle climate challenges

    Yesterday, the University of Ljubljana (UL) celebrated EUTOPIA day for the first time with a series of events on climate challenges and finding solutions for a sustainable future. Experts and students experts discussed and presented how UL, researchers and researchers are tackling and finding solutions to climate challenges at the European Union House in Ljubljana. The Alliance Day was held simultaneously at all ten partner universities and celebrated the efforts to create a common higher education space that fosters the development of education, research and innovation both locally and globally.
