Academy of Music

The Academy of Music of the University of Ljubljana (UL AG) is a teaching, artistic and research institution. It offers two first cycle university degree programmes:

Music Art

With twenty-six majors, i.e. all orchestral instruments, singing, saxophone, recorder, piano, organ, harpsichord, accordion, guitar, composition and music theory, conducting, sacred music.

Music pedagogy

The best students are presented in three concert cycles: a concert subscription with representative major ensembles such as the symphony orchestra, wind orchestra, UL AG chamber string orchestra, chamber choir, mixed choir, Gregorian choir, a chamber music cycle featuring the best chamber ensembles from all departments, and a solo concert cycle featuring the best soloists from most of the majors. Research activities at the UL AG take place mainly in the Department of Composition and Music Theory and the Department of Music Pedagogy, as well as at the annual International Musicology Symposium. The Academy of Music has important links with various Slovenian and international institutions. Especially in the artistic field, its quality is internationally recognised, with students successfully presenting themselves in large ensembles and individually in many centres, such as Berlin, Vienna, Graz, Amsterdam, Salzburg, Trieste, Zagreb, Hamburg, Belgrade and others.
