About the programme

The main aim of the study programme is to train doctoral candidates to perform the most demanding works and tasks in the artistic environment, to work independently in artistic research in the broader field of art and to integrate equally into the international labour market and artistic research environment, as well as to create opportunities for further study in post-doctoral artistic study programmes. The programme is aimed at developing a broad-minded doctoral student who will be able to independently conduct and coordinate the most complex research and knowledge applications in the chosen field of art, as well as in the context of interdisciplinary research and artistic projects. The doctoral student will be qualified for research work in academia and beyond, and will be skilled, independent and proactive in the management of basic, applied or development (interdisciplinary) research programmes and projects in the field of art.

Admission requirements and application for enrolment

For the call for enrolment, candidates have to apply on the eVŠ online portal.

At the latest at the time of enrolment, the candidate must submit a written agreement from the mentor or possible co-mentor to accept the mentoring or co-mentoring. At the same time, the candidate must also submit a brief conceptual outline of the research.

Enrolment in the doctoral study programme Art is open to candidates who have completed:

• second-cycle study programmes;

• study programmes leading to an academic higher education qualification, adopted before 11 June 2004;

• previous study programs for the acquisition of a master's degree in art or a master's degree in science or specialization after the completion of the study programme for the acquisition of a university degree, adopted before 11 June 2004; for enrolment in doctoral study programs of the 3rd level, the relevant member body recognizes study obligations on the proposal of the coordinator of the field responsible for doctoral studies in the amount of at least 60 credit points;

• study programmes leading to professions regulated by EU directives, or other integrated master's degree programmes evaluated at 300 ECTS credits;

• foreign universities and academies (including art colleges), in accordance with the prescribed conditions as apply to students of the Republic of Slovenia; the equivalence of education previously acquired abroad is established in the procedure of recognition of foreign education for continuing education in accordance with the UL Statute;

• study programmes for obtaining specialisation of those graduates who have previously completed a higher professional programme; before enrolling in the third-cycle study program, the programme council of the doctoral study programme Art sets these candidates additional obligations in the amount of 360 credit points.

The selection of candidates will be based on the success of the completed studies and on achievements in the artistic and professional field. The individual selection elements will be evaluated as follows:

• results in the 2nd cycle study (average grade at least 8): 10%;

• assessment of the expert commission achieved on the test of artistic talent (90%):

– the topic proposal, the draft of the doctoral study plan: 25%;

– portfolio of works of art to date: 25%;

– interview with the candidate: 40%.
