1. WHAT IS YEAR PLUS?
During their first year at the University of Ljubljana, international students may attend the so-called Year Plus, in which the Slovenian language courses are mandatory. Year Plus is designed to help international students to adapt to the Slovenian system and culture in their first year of study in Slovenia.

Please note:
To be eligible for Year Plus, a student must be enrolled in one of the degree programmes at the University of Ljubljana.

 

2. TARGET GROUP OF YEAR PLUS
International students in their first study year at the University of Ljubljana bachelor or master degree programmes with no or limited knowledge of the Slovenian language.

Please note:
Doctoral students are invited to enrol in Year Plus courses, but they cannot apply ECTS credit points from those courses towards the doctoral degree.

 

3. RECOGNITION OF YEAR PLUS ECTS CREDIT POINTS
The Year Plus consists of elective subjects, offered for the individual academic year, of which at least 6 ECTS credit points are represented by the Slovenian language courses. Student who accumulates at least 30 ECTS credit points during the first study year at the University of Ljubljana, of which at least 6 ECTS credit points are from the Slovenian language course, is entitled to a one year extension of the student status during his or her studies.

Year Plus is not designed for candidates applying for studies that require the knowledge of Slovenian at B2 level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

4. CONTENT IN YEAR PLUS

It is a course of Slovenian as a foreign language designed especially for the University of Ljubljana students and faculty members to meet their specific communicative needs  by learning the Slovenian language  systematically  in an organized setting. The course is implemented through language practice in groups of 20 students, thus encouraging active students' participation in listening, reading, speaking, and writing. Teaching and learning is adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants, the contents reflecting the actual needs in everyday life communication as well as for study purposes. The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points, including 60 hours of group work.

It is a course of Slovenian as a foreign language designed for the students already mastering the level of the Slovenian language skills provided by the Slovenian as a foreign language – lectorate 1. The course is implemented through language practice in groups of 20. Teaching and learning is adapted to the level of communicative language skills of the participants, the contents reflecting the actual needs in everyday communication as well as in the academic environment of the University of Ljubljana. The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points, including 60 hours of group work.

The course is designed for the foreign students already mastering the level of the Slovenian language skills provided by the Slovenian as a foreign language – lectorate 2 and provides for additional improvement of communicative language skills in gropus of 20 students. Teaching and learning is adapted to the level of language skills of the participants and to the communication needs of the academic environment. The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points, including 60 hours of group work.

The course is designed for the international students at the University of Ljubljana wishing to improve their knowledge of the Slovenian language and culture for better integration in the Slovenian society, everyday life, study, and work in Slovenia. The topics of the course are related to geographical, historical, artistic, literary and other cultural features, ethnological, political and economic phenomena, social activities and life in the modern Slovenian society. The course also includes an overview of the current events in fine arts, theatre, dance, film and music.

Provides you with theory and practical skills of:

  • use of faculty information systems (university digital identity, web classroom, student information system, Eduroam),
  • use of library services (COBISS, search and checking out, material availability),
  • use of UL repositository,
  • basics of professional writing:
  • word processing software,
  • structuring written reports,
  • ethics in writing (citing, plagiarism, intellectual property),
  • making interactive presentations (Prezi, PowerPoint),
  • culture of electronic communication,
  • collaborative and productivity tools (Google Drive, Dropbox, Office 365, Overleaf, ShareLaTeX).

    The student load corresponds to 3 ECTS credit points including 45 hours of group work. The course is carried out at the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Computer and Information Science.

5. APPLICATION FOR THE YEAR PLUS
You can apply for the Year Plus Module 24 hours after finishing the application process at your faculty/academy. You will need your digital certificate to submit the application. The instructions for creating your digital certificate (if not already active) can be found here.
