About the programme
Statistics, as a scientific discipline in its own right, is also of great importance for the development of other sciences, as its results are used by almost every scientific discipline, such as the life sciences, economics and business, law, medicine, the social sciences and humanities, the natural sciences and engineering. In addition, decision-makers in a wide range of professional fields, from the civil service to various departments in companies, turn to statistics for help. Statistics can be said to make a major contribution to the development of science and society as a whole. And its importance is only growing in an era when technologies make it possible to collect large amounts of data automatically;
It is the only doctoral programme in Slovenia that trains highly qualified statistics professionals and researchers who, upon completion of their studies, are able to analyse and interpret data in a high-quality way in research environments, businesses and public institutions. The programme is comparable to similar programmes at foreign universities. Doctoral students are thus trained to develop specific methods, to translate theoretical knowledge into practice and to analyse and interpret data qualitatively in various research environments, companies and public institutions.
