Porsche Leasing supports the Srčna UL charity campaign with a €2,500 donation
Porsche Leasing has joined the Srčna UL (Warm-Hearted UL) charity campaign as a donor. The University of Ljubljana has been carrying out this initiative since 2021 in cooperation with the Slovenian Association of Friends of Youth. Porsche Leasing’s donation of €2,500 makes a significant contribution to supporting students who, due to various life circumstances, have found themselves in financial distress.

Results Announced for the EUTOPIA_HEALTH Seed Funding Call
The EUTOPIA_HEALTH seed funding call generated significant interest among the project partners: three partners (NOVA University Lisbon, Portugal; Babeș-Bolyai University Cluj-Napoca, Romania; University of Ljubljana, Slovenia) submitted a total of 26 proposals. Six projects were selected, two from each partner. The selected projects will receive funding over a two-year period.

Public Call for the Award of Scholarships to Foreign Citizens from Western Balkans for Studying in Slovenia in 2026
The Public Scholarship, Development, Disability and Maintenance Fund of the Republic of Slovenia has published a call for candidates from the Western Balkan countries (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, the Republic of Kosovo, the Republic of North Macedonia, and the Republic of Serbia), offering €9,600 per year for living expenses.

3D-Printed Sensors with Automatic Adaptation to Temperature Changes Without Additional Detectors
Researchers at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering have developed a groundbreaking method that enables 3D-printed sensors to automatically adapt to temperature variations without the need for additional temperature sensors. The discovery opens the door to broad use of smart structures in variable environments—from aircraft to infrastructure—where existing solutions have not been reliable enough or have been overly complex.

University of Ljubljana among the top 200 European universities in the QS Europe rankings for the first time
In the third edition of the international QS Europe 2026 rankings of the best European universities, published in January, the University of Ljubljana (UL) was ranked 197th, marking its best-ever position in this list and its first entry among the top 200 universities in Europe. At the same time, the UL achieved an excellent 8th place among European universities in the category of Employment Outcomes, or graduate employability.

University of Ljubljana inaugurates 75 new professors
A total of 75 new professors for the year 2025 were officially announced in the Assembly Hall of the Rector's Office at the University of Ljubljana (UL). The titles, recognising achievements in scientific, research, artistic and pedagogical work, were conferred by the Rector of the University of Ljubljana, Prof. Dr Gregor Majdič.

Researchers from the University of Ljubljana are co-developing smart autonomous vessels for safer seas
esearchers from the University of Ljubljana participated in the development of autonomous biomimetic underwater vehicles for underwater surveillance, monitoring, and reconnaissance, operating in groups (swarms or schools). This work is the result of the international project SABUVIS II, carried out under the auspices of the European Defence Agency (EDA). In addition to Slovenian partners, the project also involves partners from Germany, Poland, and Portugal.

Notice for prospective students: UL does not cooperate with intermediaries or agencies in the enrollment process
The University of Ljubljana (UL) informs all applicants who wish to study at UL that they do not need the services of agents or agencies to apply for enrolment in UL study programmes. Exceptionally, within the application‑admission procedure, applicants from migration‑risk countries will be invited by UL to participate in an interview, which will, in certain countries, be carried out in cooperation with an external provider.

High attendance at the first Festival of Slovenian Universities, UNI-SI
On 16 and 17 January, the first Festival of Slovenian Universities, UNI-SI, took place at the Ljubljana Exhibition and Convention Centre, bringing together all eight Slovenian universities that are members of the Slovenian Rectors’ Conference (RKRS). A new method enables significantly more precise measurements in engines – a step toward cleaner and more efficient vehicles
Researchers from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana participated in the development of a new method for measuring pressure in internal combustion engines, which can significantly improve their efficiency and reduce emissions. Using this method, they achieved up to 48% more accurate determination of heat release, up to 38% more accurate measurement of the rate of pressure rise, and up to 13% more accurate measurement of in-cylinder pressure.
