Faculty of Education at the University of Ljubljana (UL PEF) educates and trains teachers and other professionals in education - from pre-school teachers, classroom teachers who also have the opportunity to train in early English teaching, art teachers, to professors who are experts in teaching two subjects or subject areas. The advantage of graduates of the Faculty of Education is precisely that they are trained in at least two subject areas, which increases their employability and also meets the needs of school practice.

In addition to traditional teacher training programmes, the Faculty of Education is the only institution in Slovenia that trains specialists in inclusive education for children and adolescents with special needs, covering the whole spectrum of special needs, from behavioural and social problems to all types of disabilities (visual, hearing, speech, motor) and learning difficulties, in study programmes in social, special and rehabilitation pedagogy. Graduates of all study programmes acquire a wide range of general, academic and pedagogical competences during their studies. These include reflexivity and professionalism in dealing with a variety of pedagogical issues, a holistic understanding of children and adolescents, and knowledge and understanding of their developmental characteristics, differences and needs.

They acquire knowledge and understanding of the laws of learning and teaching in different fields, and a comprehensive range of specific professional competences to master their field of study (subject) and/or discipline. While developing quality partnerships with educational institutions, studies at UL PEF are linked to practice, where students integrate and enrich the knowledge they acquire at the Faculty with practical experience, under the guidance of quality mentors.

The networking with a number of universities and faculties in the European area enables students and teachers of the UL PEF to visit and further their studies at these faculties, as well as to develop modern study programmes comparable to those in Europe. Recognising the need to train top-quality and specialised teaching professionals who will drive the further development of teaching practice in Slovenia, UL PEF is also developing Master's and Doctoral programmes in all fields of study.
