We’re Hiring PhD Students!
Reactor Engineering Division at the Jožef Stefan Institute is offering three exciting PhD topics in the fields of material aging, nuclear safety, and heat transfer enhancement in fission and fusion reactors:
- Microstructure-informed statistical modeling of grain-boundary damage, mentor Dr. Samir El Shawish (Samir.ElShawish@ijs.si)
- Experimental and computational heat transfer in film boiling, mentor Dr. Mitja Uršič (Mitja.Ursic@ijs.si)
- Advanced methods for investigation of bubble dynamics in two-phase flows, mentor Dr. Blaž Mikuž (Blaz.Mikuz@ijs.si)

Expected qualifications:
1. MSc degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics, obtained within the last 4 years.
2. Solid background in fluid dynamics, heat transfer, or machine learning.
3. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
4. An average grade of at least 70% across all exams and coursework in the degree program.
